The polycarbonate material used is one of the toughest clear plastic materials available. Its toughness creates a very effective shield material that will normally endure numerous impacts without breaking. Polycarbonate is a plastic and can be sensitive to stress and may crack or break, normally after repeated use. These shields are designed to give protection against blows inflicted by another person. Some protection will be achieved against liquids and heat. The shield is NOT designed to protect against bullets or projectiles from mechanical devices. The design incorporates a system of attaching the handgrips to the shield. This is to minimise breakages while in use. The shield should be replaced once any sign of cracking or stress marks are noticed. Listed are some of the features of the shield which will help you understand the benefits with this design.

• If shields are broken or damaged over a period of time, only the polycarbonate needs replacing at a lower cost. The handle can be detached and connected to the new clear polycarbonate.
• We have reduced the risk of polycarbonate breaking by developing the new handle which clamps over a large area of the polycarbonate thus reducing stress points. Combined with the heat moulded curvature of the shield this offers better overall strength through good design and sturdy construction.
• The width of the handle is 540mm (Shield 590mm) therefore leaving a polycarbonate strip on each side. The strip creates the space to form a defensive wall for better crowd control. With the elbow to shoulder being a fixed length, the sides are pushed forward on the right to hold into position. (Not applicable to round model).
• The shields have been made to be as light weight as possible without jeopardising strength.
• The interchangeable handle means greater flexibility for storage as well as transportation and can be fitted in less than a minute however it is recommended that shields are ready for use at short notice.
• The Velcro "seat beat" webbing is encased in the foam unit and has a fast release tab suitable for gloved hands.
• The anthropometric design of the handle means it will accommodate up to 95% of the adult US male population.
• The pistol grip handle is designed to distribute loading over the greatest hand area and to place the greatest load on the strongest fingers.
• The skin foamed polyurethane moulding is naturally shaped to the arm for maximum comfort and mobility. The elbow and knuckles have built in foam guards, reducing the risk of losing manpower from minor injuries.
• There is also an allowance made in the moulding for constrictive clothing: i.e. gloves, wrist watches, rings and arm bands.

Care and consideration of the shield will prolong its useful life. If the shield requires cleaning, use only soapy water and a soft cloth, and then rinse off with water. Do not use chemicals or solvents of any kind. If any cracks or stress marks are evident, then replace the shield. Do not re-use the damaged shield. Avoid constantly tapping or hitting the shield. This will add stress to the shield and shorten its useful life. Storage should always be out of direct sunlight to limit UV degradation of the shield.
